Once you feel comfortable with an idea. I have a Gdoc that we share and you could add your ideas on the page as well.

I find it interesting that the shafts travel quite a ways laterally as well as the leads once you are down to depth. Seeing some one pop up nearby may mean the lead/tunnel they follow is blocks away and they could travel just a block or so in a tunnel but with the shaft length added could be dozens of blocks away.
I think for practical game play I might set up a 6 or 8 node sets of shafts and 2 or 3 main trunks for tunnels. Maybe have just 1 way to get from one to another to create a pinch point or even have to move over ground to get to the other parts.

Just a thought but would it be a unusual idea to have a section of the book which has the rules for allowing a player or team of players to create their own settlement/stronghold and attract/press gang others (npc's) to their cause so those players who like sandbox building could enjoy as well as your traditional adventuring hack/slashers? I'm just thinking that it may make Infected stand out against it's temporaries in the Horror RPG world.

Hi Cully, It's a cool idea. I'd love to know your thoughts on how that might work. I usually run that sort of thing through Roleplaying and politics, gaining allegiances and that sort of thing, but if you have a mechanics system of that in mind, I'd be interested

I would use role playing and diplomacy in other games, that sounds like it could be fun!!

Would there be a cool, light mechanic that we could use for that too?

If we were to set up a sandbox style involvement, could we utilise a forum for it? I'd guess that all the forum contributions can be used in your general locations rather than just location specific to the backer who created them. For Example, I've suggested the NPC "Scruffy", now that doesn't mean he only exists in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. You could adopt and change his location and background as needed. I've just supplied a rough, broad stroke to work with. Who's to say he doesn't live in a large city with a huge sewer system instead of mines? He could be the local go to guy if you want something.

Would there be a cool, light mechanic that we could use for that too? A Charisma + Diplomacy check can be used to effect the disposition of those you speak to. The more successes you get the greater the effect. Levels of Disposition and number of successes needed Hostile 0 Successes Unfriendly 2 Successes Indifferent 4 Successes Friendly 6 Successes Helpful 8 Successes Assuming that most will be hostile (at worst) or unfriendly (at best) we will start the scale at Hostile. You can modify the roll, by giving gifts, by +1/+1 or greater, depending on the gift.

rupethebear, good idea mate! I've created this thread for just that purpose: immersionrpg.freeforums.net/thread/23/infected-rpg-sandboxThough I reckon that if anyone wanted to go all-out and create some crazy-cool, highly-detailed area, with heaps of characters, twisted plots, plot hooks and so on, then they could create a whole thread where they can pump all that juicy creativity. I would LOVE to see that Garage, yeah that's a good way of looking at NPC interaction! I like it. However, that's not really a mechanic for building a community or bandit group or something like that, eh? As I said, I usually RP that... but it's possible there could be some light mechanics for it too.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL CREATIVE LEVEL KICKSTARTER BACKERS:When you write down your ideas here, please set them in the USA. That's where we'll be focusing our attentions in the book. Some points of particular interest are: LA, San Diego, the Great Lakes, New York, Virginia - and I would like to put in some mid-west area too, or possibly Texas. Many of these areas should overlap to some degree with each other, which will make for a LOT more interest and creativity - small ripples travel a long way The deadline for these will be October 31st 2015. Remember, you can also email me at oliver@immersion-rpg.com ! Let's get creating!

The trouble with building a community/safehaven is it gets complicated really quickly, as you have to have rules for everything and timescales....
As a DM I'd just wing it!! As most of the time I've run games the PCs would rather be off killing monsters than building a home.
