So here's something that most of the "Zombie" genre films or TV shows don't really clarify. Is it only Humans that are effected by the virus?
Pigs, bears and many other animals are opportunistic scavengers, can they be infected by eating infected meat, or indeed be infected by being attacked?
I for one am going to introduce a house rule stating that only Homo Sapiens are effected by the outbreak. Makes surviving a bit easier for my players....

I like that rule myself.
otherwise... mosquitoes, fish, cat, dog, birds... everything might kill you. Wait... that is living in AU.

I don't think the island is self sustaining at this time, but with reduced numbers it could be made to be more independent. Give me some more time to do some investigation.

My campaign is set in the UK where we are based. And set in the early days if the outbreak when they start reawakening. The government announced there would be a lottery to decide which families are taken to the Channel Islands where it is free from infection. Riots ensue after the announcement of who the lucky few are. The pcs are some of those lucky few and get picked up by military escort. However when at the ferry port a flood if rioters and infected starts mass panic the PCs are separated from they families as they at boarding. The PCs l are stuck on land as the ferry leaves. And this is where the adventure starts.
Thoughts?

www.mackinacisland.orgThe above link has a complete map and directory for the island. I thought it would be a good springboard for any campaign. Have we decided on how soon this would be taking place? Each possible scenario can lead into some very interesting areas. The following book has some interesting ideas about surviving on an island during a ghoul/zombie uprising. www.amazon.com/Day-Armageddon-J-L-Bourne/dp/1439176671 Btw, listening to the Audible version of this book really brings the story to "life". And for a personal question: Do you folks mind me coming on the forum and just laying out ideas like this? Or is it too much of an ego fest?

Nails, that's very similar to how I was planning to start. Seperating the PC's from their families throws a new dynamic at them. Who's family do they go after first? Do they all stay together or split up? I know some of my PC's would kill other characters if they stopped them getting to their families !

Ralph, go for it. I don't think there are any bad ideas, they all bring a new point of view and quite often gives us all a differnt thought we may or may not use.

Cool stuff everyone! ralph I love it mate I think it lends a lot of great interest and colour. People can take ideas and run with them - for instance, while I have done a fair bit of research into the islands of the Great Lakes, I am still an Aussie who has never been there, and I am on the other side of the world, so when you bring up these points, they add fuel to the creative fire! Keep it up nails Sounds like a gripping beginning! Straight into the action - it's a great way to start actually. Already one of your pcs have had their leg bitten too... ouch! Now here's a couple of interesting things about the virus, some food for thought - not everyone who gets infected does actually die, and does actually become an Infected - but most have one or the other. BUT if you have good medical attention (i.e. experimental vaccines and the like - or even just really excellent medical care) then you stand a substantially better chance of survival. Sometimes people also use extreme methods to "cleanse" the wound, like burning the area, dousing it in bleach, cutting the flesh off, or even amputation - all sorts of harsh, yet often effective, methods abound. This makes for some interesting dilemmas for infected players - they're not just automatically "dead" or crippled. They could actually survive if given enough care, and medical supplies (which few hospitals have the resources for, with so many infected people). Oh - one thing (rules note), I noticed that one of your pc's mentioned that if she had her leg cut off she'd get some bonus EXP given to her for the Disadvantage. Sadly, that's not the case once the game's started! You lose your leg... and there really isn't a good side. Unless of course you want to play that as a house rule

Cheers Oliver I will remember that stuff with the infection. That was just a trail mini combat to see how it worked. So when start properly on Wednesday she won't have been bitten. Did I mention they are literally playing as themselves with their real life abilities. Thought it would get genuine reactions out of them especially while learning to play.

Remember its ok to embellish, add a few more generators, small gas holding tank, fishing boats and find a place that might be able to trade fuel for!. I think that its doable!

I love the "Lottery" Angle and the roiter breaching the gate, full panic and ...... the adventure begins.

This is the place to share and help each other's areas grow. I asked Oliver to make a place where we could all get together on the same page. Share ideas, take an idea and change it... make it yours.... If someone want to do the train or have questions about logistic, handloading, survival tips, medicine, radio sets or anything that I know or worked in that area before. I want to help you and I hope that you will teach me as well. Make a map like I did. Add POIs ( Points of interests ), Events, populations, factions, equipment. GO crazy!

I wish we could have gotten you guys in our last game, sounds like fun. ask each other what your stats are, fill in your knowledge of things then play yourselves, no water need... just awesome!.

Food for thought.
I mentioned the other day that I plan on using google earth a lot. For example: their street view can be used for a chase scenario where they can make decisions based on what the PC would see. (Granted there would be more abandoned cars etc). It can also be used to create maps of cities especially if you are using real world locations.
Thoughts? Would you use this? Do you think it would add to the experience?

I'm using Google Earth too. It helps on so many levels !! I plan to have my group from around here so it makes it easy to say "You're on the street outside Target and see a group of infected coming towards you from the Dana Street Primary School" and they know exactly what the distance is, what the shops around are and ways they can get out of the CBD. I'm toying with a bit of Tabletop inclusion in the game I will run, just so I can drop a heap of my Skeleton and zombie figures on a table.
