I am currently working on the Character Creation section of the book, and would really appreciate some feedback from you awesome peeps!
Previously I had had larger descriptions under each Attribute
For example, under Courage:
Courage
Level:
1-2 Gutless
You’re a coward. At the merest sign of trouble, you’ll give up and walk away. If threatened, you’re likely to burst into tears and give the muggers your wallet – even if they’re half your size. Even the smallest amount of pain is intolerable to you.
3-4 Chicken
You don’t like to confront difficulties, and have a tendency to back away from anything more than a minor trouble. You get frightened easily, and pain really hurts.
5-6 Reasonably brave
You will face things, and push through a lot of the troubles that come your way, but if things get really tough you’ll more likely back down. You might look back at the tough guy staring you down, but you’ll probably end up breaking his gaze first. You can tolerate your fair share of pain, but it will quickly overtake your tolerance.
7-8 Courageous
You can face and push through things that others wouldn’t even attempt. Thugs and threats don’t really scare you, and you’ll stare down almost any thug that gets in your way. Pain hurts, sure, but you can take it.
9-10 Heroic
What you push through in your daily life, others would write books about. Adversity is no stranger to you, but you have faith you can push through it no matter the odds. Thugs, cronies – even weapons and death threats don’t concern you. Because death holds no fear. Pain, what is pain? A privilege. It’s what lets you know you’re still alive.
Currently I'm thinking that this tends to spread out the section so much that it might be difficult to follow.
I've been going through a draft where the levels are presented like this:
Level:
1 Gutless
2 Cowardly
3 Timid
4 Average
5 Bold
6 Brave
7 Courageous
8 Valiant
9 Unflinching
10 Heroic
Here's the full example of the first type.
And here's the example of the new type.
What I'm looking for is to make it concise, yet interesting. Giving enough information that you fully understand what the levels mean when the attribute is at that level (note that the first document's examples would change somewhat, as they're a bit too extremely "bad" for the low levels at present).
What do you think?
What way do you like better? And why?
Which way is the most clear?
Cheers!
